How GAFIRS is funded

Gafirs costs around £35,000 per year to run, not including capital projects (our current capital projects are a boathouse extension and a new 8.4 metre rescue boat both costing aproximatey £150,000).

The new rescue craft is an estimated cost of £150,000 and the building extension is also at the same figure. We are currently seeking support from the National Lottery, local and national firms in meeting the costs. We are interested in any offers of sponsorship or donations to these projects. Please contact our Fundraising Secretary or Special Projects Officer for further details.

Our fundraising is in many forms, from street collections to donations from charitable trusts, companies, induviduals and those we rescue.

If you would like to help our organisation in any way, donations or sponsorship of new equipment are always welcome, please contact our Fundraising Secretary Joyce Thomas by E-mail.

Every Penny Donated to the Service is Used by the Service. No-one takes any administration fees.

We thank all the local and national companies, organisations and individuals who have helped us to help those in need and distress whilst at sea or on shore.

All of the crew are volunteers and give freely of their time to aid the service. GAFIRS is unique in that not only does it use its training skills to teach the lifeboat crews but, as a fully approved RYA Training Center, undertakes training of local Fire Officers, yachtsmen, SCUBA divers and fishermen.

Although the Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service was established in 1969 to protect those at sea in the Eastern Solent, it is regularly called upon in times of flooding. The lifeboat crews, shore helpers and cadets undertake community work both during and after storms by clearing fallen trees, using small boats to take householders from their flooded homes or rescuing people stranded in their cars.

GAFIRS is a member of the Solent Sea Rescue Organisation (SSRO) and affiliated to the British Canoe Union Lifeguards and the Royal Lifesaving society.

Q: How do I make a gift to ‘Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service’ in my Will?
A: The most important information is to include the amount you wish to donate, the Charities name and address and Registered Charity number.
It is suggested you use a statement on the following lines:-
